On Saturday February 16th I’m organizing a party called Antenna at Canvasopde7e in Amsterdam. Antenna is an electronic music night with live shows and dj sets from my favorite artists and friends. For the third edition of the party I asked Stellar OM Source to play a live show. Currently based in Belgium, the artist has a production history dating back to 2005, self releasing homespun synth explorations and appearing on labels such as Olde English Spelling Bee and Digitalis. Those early productions saw the producer, real name Christelle Gualdi, explore technicolour visions of New Age psychedelia inspired by the digital age, with the dreamy chords owing a debt to the machine-driven soul of Detroit techno. These influences have come to the fore in her forthcoming (and much delayed) 12-inch for Rush Hour‘s distribution sub-label; the four tracks on offer combine Gualdi’s penchant for crafting delicious synthesiser melodies with pulsing drum patterns (source:junodownload.com).
For the thirteenth edition of 5 Days Off I’m working as the festival’s Marketing Communications Manager and Art Program Coordinator. From the 6th till 10th of March over 20.000 people will visit this yearly festival for electronic music in Amsterdam. This year’s line-up consists of many big names such as: Maceo Plex, Hudson Mohawke, James Holden, Mr Scruff, Modeselektor, Gilles Peterson, Floating Points, Benji B, AraabMuzik and many more. Visit 5daysoff.nl for more information.
I’m asked to help promote a project called Disquiet TV. A unique and interactive virtual auditorium for contemporary music, established in conjunction with the multimedia label Disquiet. No other digital concert hall lets its audience get as close or as interactive with the music. Viewers can not only watch live streams of contemporary music events, but also choose from multiple video feeds, chat with other audience members using Twitter or through the website itself, talk to performers in backstage interviews and even direct the cameramen.
‘Taking over the world 22tracks at a time’ is the first documentary of the Firestarter Files, a series of short documentaries about new initiatives and start-ups. The first Firestarter File is about the story of Gilles de Smit & Vincent Reinders, or better known as 22tracks; the digital jukebox with 22 playlists. Firestarters followed Vincent and Gilles to Paris where the launch of 22tracks Paris took place and then continued the journey to Brussels, Amsterdam and London. Check out the story of 22tracks in a nutshell and see how they are taking over the world, track by track.
What is a festival without a good aftermovie? Feel the vibes of 5 Days Off 2012 and enjoy the special track made by Presk & Cinnaman.
The 5 Days Off campaign started this week with a press release announcing the first artists: Madeon, Gui Boratto, Ben Klock, Jessie Ware, Monolake (live) and The Gaslamp Killer. Check out the promo teaser video with music made by Presk (prizewinner of the ‘Grote Prijs van Nederland 2011‘).
Excited to be working on a new communications project for 5 Days Off (7-11 March 2012). The two most renowned music venues Paradiso and Melkweg host the annual festival which doesn’t only focus on electronic music but also on a diversity of art disciplines which manifest in the ever evolving club culture. Therefore the festival also collaborates with the Dutch Institute of Media Art, NIMk. You can find more information about the festival at www.5daysoff.nl.
I am really excited about the Patterns + Pleasure Festival that’s coming up. It’s great to work on this project together with the people from STEIM and see how much lover there is for music. Check out the website and the trailer below. Patterns + Pleasure Festival, 26, 27 + 28 September at Frascati.
During nightly hours I like to work on my personal project Antenna. A new electronic music night I started this year together with some friends. The first edition in May was a success and the next one will be even better. Because we are invited to organise a new party during the Amsterdam Dance Event 2011. ADE is the leading electronic music conference and the world’s biggest club festival for electronic music. You can find more information about the line up and location here.

This summer I will be working for STEIM as PR manager on the Patterns + Pleasure Festival (Sept 26, 27, 28). STEIM (STudio for Electro-Instrumental Music) is a center for research and development of new musical instruments in the electronic performing arts, located in Amsterdam. STEIM supports artists in residence such as composers and performers, but also multimedia and video artists to develop set-ups which allow for improvisation and performance with individually designed technology. For more information about the Patterns + Pleasure Festivalgo to patternsandpleasure.com.
A little post about my personal project Antenna, a new party in Amsterdam. I’m the promoter of Antenna and resident dj together with Max Cole. On Saturday May 21 we’re organising the first edition of Antenna at Canvas Amsterdam. With guest performances by DJ Ken and Ahy’Kah. Listen to Antenna on Soundcloud or Spotify and follow us on Facebook.
I had a great time working as a freelancer for Muziekgebouws World Minimal Music Festival 2011. Our communication and marketing strategy really worked out. The festival got a lot of press coverage and many (new and young) visitors. Most of the concerts sold out and the music was very inspiring. You can find pics, video’s, music and interviews on the wmmf highlights page of Vpro Dorst.
Last week I was invited by Oscar Smit for his radio-show Beautiful Extremes at Studio80 in Amsterdam. He wanted to talk to me about the upcoming World Minimal Music Festival at Muziekgebouw aan ‘t IJ (March 30 – April 3). Oscar also asked me to collect some minimal music for his show. It was really nice playing Aphex Twin next to Gaving Bryars, Steve Reich and Brian Eno live on air. Listen to the show and enjoy the music.
Muziekgebouw aan ‘t IJ asked me to help them promote the World Minimal Music Festival (March 30 – April 3). What a great way to start my new career as independent communications professional. This month I will be working full time on PR at the office of the Concert Hall of the 21st Century, Muziekgebouw aan ‘t IJ.
Hypnotic, repetitive and breathtaking: since as far back as the 1960s, minimal music has been entrancing people with deceptively simple means. Muziekgebouw aan ‘t IJ in Amsterdam and Muziekgebouw Frits Philips Eindhoven are paying tribute to this exceptional genre with a programme which includes music from Steve Reich, Philip Glass, Simeon ten Holt, Michael Nyman, the Mandara Mountains in Cameroon and Machinefabriek.
