New Project: NDSM

I started working part time as senior communications manager for the NDSM Foundation. NDSM is the historical remainder of the largest shipyard in Amsterdam, now developing itself into a creative city at the north bank of the IJ river. The NDSM wharf has the promise to grow continuously as a gravity center of urban creative energy. NDSM remains an experimental urban environment, a self-made city. More info at

Rewire Festival 2016

After working on two succesfull editions of Rewire Festival in The Hague (2014/2015), I’m now busy buiding a fresh new campaign strategy for 2016 (April 1-3). Rewire is an annual international festival for adventurous music. The festival presents a broad programme with a focus on contemporary electronic music, neo-classical, new jazz, experimental pop, sound art and multidisciplinary collaborations. First announced artists are Animal Collective, Mica Levi & Stargaze present Under The Skin, Battles, Teho Teardo & Blixa Bargeld, Xiu Xiu plays Twin Peaks, Ben UFO, amongst others. Check

New Project: Sagra Food&Wine

New project: In Code

Gwyneth Wentink, Wouter Snoei en Arnout Hulskamp present ‘In Code’. An audiovisual performance of ‘In C’ by Terry Riley with harp, electronica and visuals. “In C” by Terry Riley is shrouded in mystery. Rumored to be the first piece of minimal music ever written, it doesn’t have a fixed running time. Most renditions of this mysterious piece run somewhere between 45 or 90 minutes. Originallty arranged for 35 musicians, Wouter Snoei and Gwyneth Wenting made adjustments for electronica and harp. I will be helping the team with their PR and communications strategy.

Saturday the 18th of July marks the date of the very first 22fest, a new festival at the beautiful Diemerbos presented by 22tracks. Expect an intimate forest location with three stages, a delightful food line-up, a creative side-program and lots of great music to explore. As a project manager I helped to build up the festival’s promo strategy.

Rewire Festival

James Holden

I’m very lucky to say that I’m working as Head of Marketing and Communications for the upcoming Rewire Festival in The Hague. Rewire is an annual international festival that showcases adventurous music. The programme is built around concerts, performances, club nights, screenings, artist talks and workshops. The fourth edition will take place on November 7 and 8 2014; at various venues across The Hague.

5 Days Off 2014

Since the beginning of September I’ve been working full time coordinating 5 Days Off Festival, the fourteenth edition. After being the communications manager for two years, I’ve been asked to be artistic director of the festival. A dream come true. 5 Days Off will be held from 5 till 9 March. I Can’t wait!

5 Days Off first started in 2001 as a spin-off from Belgium’s 10 Days Off festival. 5 Days Off is the first of its kind in Amsterdam, as it developed over the years into a week-long indoor dance festival much like ADE, appealing to an equally diverse audience. This year’s offerings are as varied as ever, from the mellow tones of DARKSIDE’s opening set through to the high-octane charge of Rustie. Showcases come from the Netherlands’ most raucous homegrown talent, with Speedy J’s Electric Deluxe label and drum and bass trio Noisia stepping up to the plate.

The Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra

I’m happy to be working with one of the very best orchestras in the world, The Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. It celebrates its 125th anniversary this year. The RCO developed a new format for the AAA concerts on Thursday nights: well over an hour of orchestral music without a break, preceded by a curtain-raiser (a prominent person discusses the theme on the Main Hall stage) and followed by the /entrée Late Night. The first concert in this format is thrilling in every respect: music for scary film moments, with film projections. Before the concert, the young and successful film director Pieter Kuijpers (well-known for films such as Van God Los and TBS) will speak about Suspense in music and film. For the next four AAA Thursdays (September, October, January and March). I’m working on the PR strategy and online communication together with design agency Grrr.

Firestarters with Niels Shoe Meulman

Photo by Yannick van de Wijngaert

For the Firestarters project we invited street art legend Niels ‘Shoe’ Meulman to give a live Calligraffiti performance at the Firestarters Forum. Watch the video.

Niels Shoe Meulman (also known as Shoe) is an internationally known artist and graphic designer. He is born, raised and based in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Meulman began tagging ‘Shoe’ in 1979 and became a graffiti legend by the time he was 18. In the eighties he met New York artists like Dondi, Rammellzee, Haze and Keith Haring. He then formed the Crime Time Kings with Bando from Paris and Mode2 from London. Together they gave graffiti in Europe its own distinctive style.

My work in 25 pictures

In March 2011 my life changed, I became a freelancer. No boss, no rules. After working at Mediamatic and Muziekgebouw aan ‘t IJ it was time for something new. In two years time I’ve been working on some great cases as a freelancer, like 5 Days Off, Patterns + Pleasure Festival, Vodafone Firestarters and World Minimal Music Festival. I discovered new music, met many nice people, learned new skills and earned some money to spend a little time in Japan. It feels good to be free and I’m just getting started.. Here are some pictures to prove I’m not joking.

Ben Frost

Photo: Ben Frost

For five days – from Wednesday 3 till Sunday, April 7 – be sure to visit the World Minimal Music Festival at Muziekgebouw aan ‘t IJ and/or Muziekgebouw Eindhoven. During the 3rd edition of this biennial festival, there will be lots of concerts with international musicians including Kronos Quartet, Konono No. 1 and Ben Frost, containing both ritual trance music, electronic beats and soundscapes. Next to the main program there are several special events during the festival, developed in collaboration with organizations like 22tracks, Subbacultcha! and Gonzo (circus). With dj’s, films, talk shows, minimal yoga and a 21-hour composition inspired by Erik Satie’s Vexations.

I’ve been working on the previous editions in 2009 and 2011. Now I’ve been asked to help Muziekgebouw aan ‘t IJ with the PR strategy and online marketing for the third episode of this wonderful festival. It feels good to be back!

Interview with Los Bangeles

5 Days Off Festival

Photo: 5 Days Off

Los Bangeles is based in the Netherlands (Rotterdam) and was founded in 2009 as an audiovisual weblog, focused on the sights and sounds of the U.S. West Coast. In January 2011 Los Bangeles developed into an online magazine passionately dedicated to telling the stories of creative individuals and innovative brands. For their blog they did interviews with Jameszoo, Ted Langenbach and many others. As a partner of 5 Days Off 2013, Loas Bangeles wanted to know something more about the festival and the people behind the scenes. So they asked me a couple of questions. You can read the whole interview here.

Antenna presents Stellar OM Source

Photo: Antenna artwork by 21bis

On Saturday February 16th I’m organizing a party called Antenna at Canvasopde7e in Amsterdam. Antenna is an electronic music night with live shows and dj sets from my favorite artists and friends. For the third edition of the party I asked Stellar OM Source to play a live show. Currently based in Belgium, the artist has a production history dating back to 2005, self releasing homespun synth explorations and appearing on labels such as Olde English Spelling Bee and Digitalis. Those early productions saw the producer, real name Christelle Gualdi, explore technicolour visions of New Age psychedelia inspired by the digital age, with the dreamy chords owing a debt to the machine-driven soul of Detroit techno. These influences have come to the fore in her forthcoming (and much delayed) 12-inch for Rush Hour‘s distribution sub-label; the four tracks on offer combine Gualdi’s penchant for crafting delicious synthesiser melodies with pulsing drum patterns (

Line up for Antenna on February 16th 2013: Stellar Om Source (live), Eelco Courvreur, Max Cole and myself, Bas B. Entrance only 10 euros.

Check out the interview with Stellar Om Source on Juno Plus and DJBroadcast.

New Office

As a freelancer I work at different locations all the time. I bring my laptop and sit down at the clients office or occasionally work form home. But since September I’m sharing a very nice office space with some friends in Amsterdam Oost. We (Anna, Iris, Martijn and me) call ourselves 31GradenOost. We eat lunch together, share ideas, talk about life and try to make a living. Feel free to drop by for some hot coffee. Address Timorplein 31, Amsterdam.
